Palmyra, Syria - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Palmyra, Syria

Route: From Aleppo 347 km SE on M5 and 3.

Significance: Palmyra reached its height in the 1st and 2nd centuries CE under the Romans. It was an important city on the Silk Road, as it was an oasis and had plenty of water. The city was destroyed by the Romans after an uprising and was never rebuilt.
