Mount Wutai, China - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Mount Wutai, China

Route: From Yungang Grottoes 345 km south on G55 and G1812.

Significance: One of the most important Buddhist sites in China. There are 53 monasteries here, many that are still operating. Many Buddhists make a pilgrimage to Mount Wutai in their lifetimes. The first temples were built here in the 1st century CE.
