Appomattox Court House, VA

Route: From Richmond 90 miles west on VA-76 W, US-60 W, and VA-24 W.
Significance: On April 9, 1865 General Robert E. Lee surrendered the Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant. The surrender brought to end the Civil War after 4 years and 620,000 deaths. If we had a war today with the same percentage of the population dying there would be 6 million dead.
