Camaguey, Cuba - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Camaguey, Cuba

Route: From Havana 548 km ESE on Autopista Nacional.

Population: 321,992

Significance: Established by the Spanish in 1528, the town developed due to the nearby cattle and sugar industries. The town has an irregular street pattern, supposedly designed to be like a maze to deter pirates like Henry Morgan, who sacked the town in 1668.  The town has many examples of architecture styles from the 17th to 20th centuries.
