Bremen, Germany - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Significance: The UNESCO designation is for the town hall and the statue of Roland, both of which date from the 15th century. Roland was a medieval knight under Charlemagne and the statue is supposed to be a symbol of its freedom.  The town hall has been the seat of local government for over 600 years.
