Mount Athos, Greece - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Mount Athos, Greece

Weather: Cloudy with periods of light rain, 55/63F.

Route: From Philippi 155 km SSW on E90 and A2.

Significance: The first monasteries were built in the 11th century - there are now 20 still operating. This place was seen as holy in the orthodox religion.  The monks come from all over eastern Europe. It is also infamously forbidden for women to enter the area.
