Willandra Lakes Region, Australia - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Willandra Lakes Region, Australia

Weather: Partly cloudy, 64/92F.

Route: From Melbourne 570 km north on M79.

Significance: Up until 18,500 years ago this now arid area was home to a collection of lakes. There is evidence of human inhabitation for over 40,000 years including the earliest example of cremation.  It is an area of great importance to the indigenous people of Australia.
