L'anse aux Meadows National Historic Site - UNESCO World Heritage Site

Place: L'anse aux Meadows National Historic Site
Weather: Intervals of clouds and sunshine, 49/56F.
Route: From Gros Morne National Park 366km NW on NL-430 N.
Significance: Only discovered in 1960, it is evidence that the Vikings made it to the North American continent in the 11th century, at least 400 years before Columbus.  There are eight structures in the settlement that are very similar to those on Greenland and Iceland from the same time period. This site is the only known pre-Columbian Viking settlement in North America.
