Wartburg Castle, Germany - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Wartburg Castle, Germany

Weather: Partly cloudy, 56/70F.

Route: From Aachen 387 km east on A4.

Significance: The castle was originally built in the 12th century, although there were many reconstructions in the 18th century. This was the site of the singing contests showed in Wagner's Tannhauser. It was also the site where Martin Luther translated the bible into German.  Finally, it was where St. Elizabeth lived, a champion of the poor.
