Buddhist Monuments of Sanchi, India - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Buddhist Monuments of Sanchi, India

Weather: Mainly sunny, 70/103F.

Route: From Bhimbetka Rock Shelters 97 km north on NH 46 and NH 146.

Significance: The oldest Buddhist sanctuary in existence, it dates from the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.  At this early time, the Buddha wasn't depicted as a human - he was only represented by non-human symbols.
