Champaner-Pavagadh Archeological Park, India - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Champaner-Pavagadh Archeological Park, India

Route: From Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi 551 km west on NH47.

Significance: From the 8th to 14th centuries Champaner was a Hindu capital, there are temples from this period including Kalikamata Temple on top of Pavagadh Hill that still sees many visitors today. In the 15th and 16th centuries the city became Muslim - and there are many Islamic structures here as well.
