Sun Temple, Konark, India - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Sun Temple, Konark, India

Route: From Kolkata 498 km SW on NH16.

Significance: This is a Hindu temple to the sun god Surya. In Hindu scriptures Surya (the sun) crosses the sky in a chariot. This temple has horses at the front and wheels, an artistic representation of the Hindu story. It was built in the 13th century, likely in celebration of military victories.
