Arles, France - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Arles, France

Route: From Pont d'Arc 124 km south on N106 and A54.

Population: 51,031

Significance: Arles was a major capital during the Roman times - there is a theatre and arena that still stand. There are also several Romanesque buildings from the 11th and 12th centuries.  In the late 19th century Arles was known as a place for artists - including Vincent Van Gogh - who produced some of his most famous works here.
