Tlacotalpan, Mexico - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Tlacotalpan, Mexico

Weather: Overcast with showers, 73/82F.

Route: From Veracruz 103 km SE on 180 E.

Population: 8,853

Significance: Founded 20 years after nearby Veracruz - Tlacotalpan is a World Heritage Site because its city center was frozen in time due to lack of economic development after the 19th century.  The architecture is the main draw - a great example of colonial caribbean design.  Mature trees, gardens, and brightly colored buildings are well preserved from its colonial roots.
