Chavin Archaeological Site, Peru - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Chavin Archaeolgical Site, Peru

Weather: Thunderstorms likely, 44/63F.

Route: From Huascaran National Park 144 km SE on 3N and AN-110.

Significance: Set high in the mountains, this is an older site than many of the Inca sites we will visit. The Chavin culture was at its height 2,500-3,000 years ago. The site brought people from all over the Andes for ceremonies. It is known for large buildings with plazas and a maze of rooms and passageways. There are also many beautiful sculptures and reliefs.
