Huascaran National Park, Peru - UNESCO World Heritage Site

 Place: Huascaran National Park, Peru

Route: From Chan Chan 303 km SSE on 1N and 3N.

Significance: Mount Huascaran is 22,205 feet high, making it the highest tropical mountain in the world.  The dramatic mountain range is home to many animals, such as the Spectacled Bear, Andean Condor, and Andean Mountain Cat.  The flora includes the Queen of the Andes, which has a flowered spike that can grow to 10 meters in height.
